Tipping Your Vendors

I’ve decided to add a Question and Answer section to my blog. It seems like a lot of you have similar questions! Today’s question is one that I get with almost every wedding I do.

Question:

“I need your advice on tipping vendors. How much do we tip each of them? Is it a percentage? Or a flat amount? Who do we tip? And, does it matter that if my vendors are self employed/company owning vendors? We are clueless. Help.”

Answer:

Tipping is always tricky! I’m sure you’ve researched and found that there aren’t any hard and fast rules. No doubt you’ve all read this link from the knot’s article titled, “Is Tipping Mandatory?” But, it doesn’t mention the major vendors like photo, video, etc. I’ve created a set of guidelines to make it easier for you.
TIP A VENDOR IF:
a) The vendor goes above and beyond for you, doing something perfectly or unexpectedly wonderful
b) The vendor has given you a fabulous reduced rate on his or her services
c) The vendor is someone working for a larger company and they aren’t earning very much to begin with (i.e. DJs)

DON’T FEEL LIKE YOU NEED TO TIP IF:
a) Someone’s services don’t live up to the contract’s obligations–in fact, try to get money refunded
b) Someone disappoints you by not living up to the verbal promises they made
c) You would feel uncomfortable referring the vendor to a friend

How Much?
This is the real question! I tell my couples that $75–$100 cash for each vendor is typically appropriate and much appreciated.

However…all of this being said…You are spending a lot on these vendors to begin with and if you think you’re already too stretched, don’t feel obligated to spend any extra money.

Best wishes!

What Not To Wear–Wedding Spectacular

By now, you probably know that I love makeovers. Watching someone go from ho-hum to Holy Cow! is just magical to me. I’ve already confessed that my favorite makeover show is TLC’s “What Not To Wear.” No one does a makeover better than Clinton, Stacy, Nick, and Carmindy!
Friday, June 8th is one WNTW episode that you just can’t miss. Clinton and Stacy are helping real brides choose the perfect wedding day looks! Hopefully you can take away some helpful hints for choosing your own perfect wedding gown. By the way, selecting a wedding dress is supposed to be the most exciting and joyous shopping trip you ever take. Remember that!
Here’s how TLC’s listings describe this episode:

For many women the wedding dress is the most important dress they’ll ever wear. But choosing the perfect one can be a tough decision. What Not to Wear takes three very lucky brides-to-be to New York for the bridal transformation of a lifetime.

In the meantime, here are Blush & Bashful’s tips for choosing the perfect-for-you gown:1) Show off your best assets: a tiny waist, great cleavage, or toned arms (camouflage the rest!).
2) Stay away from things that are too trendy because you’ll have these photos forever.
3) Choose a fabric shade that compliments your skin tone. Read: It doesn’t have to be white!
Have fun!
